Our Kyle has a lot of friends who are girls. He has two in particular who adore him, and the feeling is mutual. They have spent many hours together at youth group gatherings or just hanging out, playing music (the girls sing like larks) and laughing. Their friendship is strictly platonic; they are more like siblings, so it made sense that the girls invited Kyle to go to Florida with them and their family over spring break, but he said no (His girlfriend would not appreciate it.)
Last week, however, my boy got his heart broken. The Girlfriend called it quits. This is the girl he has been in love with since 3rd grade and who finally quit stringing him along and gave him a real chance. This being high school and all, five months was enough for her, and she decided they'd be better off friends. I'm glad he finally got to find out what it would be liked to be her boyfriend, and I'm sure he doesn't regret it. He seems to be getting over it fairly well. I'm sure it doesn't hurt that he's now decided to take the other girls up on their Florida offer.
Did I mention that the girls' dad won the lottery last fall? Yes, the Lottery; I'm talking $29million here, folks. They have invited him to join them, all-expenses paid as they take their first-ever family vacation. I spoke with the dad last night (I've never met him, but I know the girls' mom, his ex-wife, who vouched for him), and he said to make sure I tell Kyle not to worry at all about money; he's paying for everything. His daughter told Kyle that her dad has a budget for the trip, though; he only wants to spend $5000.00 per day. Gee, I hope they can stay under budget and still have a good time....ya think?
So, my boy will have a little help healing this week. I hope he can handle staying at 5-Star resorts, going to theme parks and beaches every day, and being surrounded by pretty girls. I don't know how we are going to stand having him gone for nine days, but there's no way we could have said no; he's a good kid. He works hard, gets good grades, etc. Plus, I'm sure a broken heart is nothing that a few days on a sunny beach, surrounded by good friends (and girls in bikinis) can't cure...it's certainly worth a try.
